Remember when The Simpons was funny?

Posted by tiburon on May 28th, 2010 at 7:41 pm

is it sad that i don’t remember the last time it was funny?

Posted by FrankieZ on May 30th, 2010 at 6:13 am

Its still pretty funny. After twenty years its amazing that its still even half decent.

Yeah, it was a long time since it was funny. And it’s not televisions longest running show – that title most likely goes to some soap.

I’m pretty surprised by the fact that it takes them 6 months to make a single episode. South Park manages that feat in 6 days. Now granted, the animation on the simpsons is a lot more complex, but that’s still a bit much.

“6 months takes to produce each episode”
Really?
It took 10,5 years to write season 20? And if they wrote every episode 6 months they’ve used 232 years to make The Simpsons so far.

Posted by dxr on June 10th, 2010 at 2:06 pm

well, presumably they’d start working on the episodes one week apart so that after 6 months they come rolling out one per week.

In what way is this ‘televisions longest running show’?

Posted by bizznitch on June 30th, 2010 at 11:40 am

Well Just try and name one other television series thats lasted 23 years! That doesn’t include reruns, which is essentially on average a four season series that gets played to death, over and over again. The Simpsons has over 21 Seasons of original content, and that’s not including the short’s that first aired on the Tracy Ullman show. So I ask you again, Just try and name one

Posted by dxr on June 30th, 2010 at 7:18 pm

Just try and name one? Alright: The guiding light. It’s a day time soap opera that ran on tv from 1953 to 2009 (not counting 15 years on the radio prior to that) and had a total of 15,762 episodes. There was even a 60 minutes segment about it.

And if you just want to talk about animated shows…. how about Pokémon? Still ongoing and has 653 episodes (plus a few unaired ones)

The simpsons has only 464 episodes so far (according to wikipedia).

In the future, it’s better to check your facts first. Both me and mib1973 were of the opinion that it wasn’t tv’s longest running show, so it should have been a hint that you _might_ be wrong. It’s better to make sure you’re right than to take a chance and end up appearing cocky _and_ wrong.

Ok, so i was a bit hasty with my wording. The Simpsons is the longest-running American sitcom, the longest-running American animated program, and is the longest running American primetime entertainment series.

Oh and pokemon can’t seriously be counted, the franchise was created in 1996, with the tv series only being aired in 1997, so that’s 13 years and 13 seasons to short regardless of how many episodes there are.

Here’s one more: The longest running comedy ever

Posted by dxr on July 1st, 2010 at 9:59 pm

Alright, I’ll give you that – it may very well be all those things – and yeah, I guess we can discount Pokémon from that. ;)
but it still isn’t the longest running show, so even if _you’re_ right, the wording of the article is still wrong

Dr. Who.

End of “longest running tv series” debate.

Moving right along, this was a fun and informative page to stumble on. Thanks!

Also, Sesame Street debuted in 1969 and to the best of my knowledge is still running. that’s 41 years, far longer than the Simpsons’ 20+. Sesame Street still doesnt win the ‘which should would I rather watch’ test though. Also, I found this info on THE NEXT SITE I STUMBLED ON. Stumbleupon: a time waster, yet still informational.

sigh….

it’s the longest running PRIME-TIME ANIMATED SERIES !

end of discussion

Posted by dxr on August 14th, 2010 at 3:04 pm

That may very well be the case – but as I said before, regardless of what it may or may not be, the article never claimed it to be the “longest running prime-time animated series”; it claimed it to be the longest running show on television, which just isn’t true.

Posted by bizznitch on August 16th, 2010 at 3:44 am

Guys this is getting old. The article does not once state that The Simpsons is the longest running ANYTHING.
The article is from oddee.com, the statement that it is tv’s longest running show was made by the everybodysucksbutus.com guys on this page.
